A program offered through the Brown County Human Services Department that works with parents of families who need guidance. Our goal is to mentor the parents of families who have found themselves in the Human Services Department. The parents in the Parent Pals program have shown a sincere desire to change their life for the better. With the guidance of the Department of Human Services, we empower parents to create safe and healthy households for their families by providing tools, training and relationships that allow families an opportunity to thrive.
We pair volunteers with parents who are motivated to be better leaders of their household. These parents need some guidance, and with the mentoring of our volunteers, the goal of being better parents is much more attainable. Volunteer mentors meet regularly with parents providing them a safe environment to share struggles and receive coaching in a non-threatening environment. Additional training provided by the Human Services Department ensures that our parents are given support and tools to change their lives.
Parent Pals is always looking for great volunteers to support our cause. If you have the passion to make a long lasting difference in the lives of a local family then we would like to meet you. Please take the time to contact us directly or get the process started by viewing our volunteer job description and filling out the volunteer application.
Matches usually get together three or four times per month, except for vacations, illness, family/work obligations, etc. An 18 month commitment is needed for entrance to the program. The length of time will be dependent upon the family circumstances and progress toward their goals. Volunteers can choose to work with more than one family if their time allows and it is agreed upon by the Social Worker / Volunteer Coordinator.
Volunteers will be reimbursed at the annually established rate for round trip mileage related to their work including direct contact with families as well as attending meetings and other appointments related to their assigned case. Reimbursement will be provided only with volunteer monthly submission of agency expense and time forms.
